His Majesty’s Men, a male vocal quintet from Chicago, will be at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Grand Rapids, Michigan today, to sing a choral meditation from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, followed by a Solemn High Mass at 7 pm. The choral meditation will feature compositions ranging from Guillaume DuFay to Javier Busto; they will then be singing Byrd’s Mass for Five Voices for the Mass—a wonderful opportunity to hear this music in its original context. A light reception will follow the Mass. More information about the ensemble can be found at their website: www.hismajestysmen.com. They recently gave a concert at the church of St John Cantius in Chicago, with a program featuring two newly-commissioned works on Marian themes: a setting of the Ave Maris Stella by their own composer-in-residence Mark Nowakowski, and a setting of the Stabat Mater by Peter Kwasniewski.
