Theme: Renewing Culture Through Beauty, Education and Worship
I am delighted to announce the upcoming Scala Foundation conference, which will take place on the campus of the Princeton Theological Seminary on April 21-22, 2023.
Contributors include my teacher and friend, Aidan Hart, who is flying over from England for the event, and Jonathan Pageau (known by many in recent years through his association with Jordan Peterson) but whom I have known for years as a wonderful icon carver and an insightful writer and speaker on art and culture generally. Jonathan is one of the co-founders of the Orthodox Arts Journal. There will be panels and breakout sessions involving these speakers moderated by myself and the Executive Director of Scala Foundation, Margarita Mooney Clayton.
The event will be punctuated by the regular praying of the Divine Office, in which all participate, and led by a choir directed by the Peter Carter. He is the founder and director of the Catholic Sacred Music Project and is well known to many to NLM readers through his organization of the choral festival and the music for the liturgies at Sacra Liturgia 2022.
Attendance at the main event is free, and there is reasonably priced accommodation available 5 minutes walk away from the campus for those who wish to travel to the event.
Other speakers in this excellent line-up, and in no particular order are:
Anna Bond, a Catholic mother of four and co-founder and of the Rifle Paper Company, which has a motto, Bringing Beauty to the Everyday. She is also a current student at Pontifex University’s Master of Sacred Arts Program!
Paul Coyer of the Common Sense Society. This organization was founded by the late Roger Scruton and promotes liberty, prosperity and beauty.
Robert Jackson of the Great Hearts Institute, a growing network of classical charter schools
R.J. Snell, Editor-in-Chief of Public Discourse and Director of the Center on the University and Intellectual Life at the Witherspoon Institute.
