On January 20, I shared a number of photos of a traditional betrothal ceremony, together with commentary: “
Photos from a Recent Traditional Betrothal Ceremony.” An NLM reader, seeing this, sent in some photos of his and his fiancée’s recent betrothal. It’s always consoling to see the riches of our Catholic tradition being rediscovered and joyfully embraced. May many more couples choose to solemnize their engagement in the way Holy Mother Church did it for centuries on end! Being a guardian of tradition is a privilege and a duty not only for the pope, the bishops, and the priests, but for every member of the faithful. (Along these lines, I highly recommend a recent article at
Unam Sanctam Catholicam, “
The Church’s Troubling View of the Laity.” The author means, of course, current
churchmen’s views...)
Enjoy the photos. Congratulations, Nicholas and Anna!
