On August 18th, the Shrine of the Little Flower, located at 35 Dion Drive in Harrisville, Rhode Island, will hold a series of events to celebrate its annual feast day, from 11:00 am to roughly 4:00 pm. Rhode Island, my home state, is the smallest in the Union, but definitely has a lot of beautiful green places, including this shrine, which was the very first in the world dedicated to St Thérèse of Lisieux. There are several different places for prayer on the grounds, including a Rosary walk, a garden of Saints, and representations of the Holy Stairs and the Tomb of Christ; it is open from sunrise until sunset during the spring, summer and fall months. The schedule of events is as follows:
- 11 am – Stations of the Cross
- 12 am – Prayers at the Holy Stairs
- 1 pm – Rosary Walk
- 2 pm – Procession with the relics of St Thérèse
- 3 pm – Mass in the traditional rite, celebrated by Fr John Berg FSSP, pastor of St Mary’s Church on Broadway in Providence.
