Solemn High Mass was celebrated for the
patronal feast of Holy Rosary Church in Portland, Oregon. While the celebrant
was the parish’s pastor, Fr. Vincent M. Kelber, O.P., His Excellency Archbishop
Alexander Sample presided in choro and preached the sermon. The Cantores in Ecclesia
choirs performed the Josef Gabriel Rheinberger’s
Cantus Missæ.
Grieg’s Ave maris stella and the Gregorian
Chant Propers were also sung.
Our Lady of the Rosary
The image at the parish shrine depicts our Lady entrusting the promulgation of Most Holy Rosary to the Dominican Order. The images are crowned in observation of the feast.
The Gospel
The Very Rev. Stephen Maria Lopez, O.P., prior of Holy Rosary Priory, serves as deacon. Mr. Jesson Mata of Blessed Sacrament Dominican Parish in Seattle assists as subdeacon.
The Homily
His Excellency Archbishop Alexander K. Sample, Archbishop of Portland in Oregon preaching the sermon.
The Beginning of the Preface
The ministers and acolytes align themselves following the offertory.
The Elevation
The sanctus candles were lit before the Canon. The chasuble and dalmatics are of 19th century origin.
