New "Thanksgiving Day" Preface (USA)

A few of our readers might recall my critique of the Preface of the (optional memorial) Mass for Thanksgiving Day (the fourth Thursday in November), as found in the Sacramentary used in the United States and now approaching the end of its working life.  My copy of the new English-language missal arrived yesterday, and I was delighted to find that that Preface has been replaced by something altogether different—and theologically sound.  Whether or not my criticisms (originally published in the June 2004 issue of Homiletic & Pastoral Review) had anything to do with it, I will probably never know.  In any event, the revision is something for which I am truly thankful.
