Three Theological Studies of Iconography in the English Language

There is often a great deal of interest expressed to me when we share items pertaining to iconography. Accordingly, I wanted to share with interested readers three books which I personally consider "must-have's" for those interested in studying the history, theology and symbolism of icons more indepth and from the perspective of Byzantine theology.

The first book I would mention is Leonid Ouspensky's two volume set, The Theology of the Icon, published by St. Vladimir's Seminary Press.

The second work is again by Leonid Ouspensky, and co-written with Eastern Christian theologian, Vladimir Lossky (author of The Mystical Theology of the Eastern Church), The Meaning of Icons also published by St. Vladimir's Seminary Press.

Final mention goes to another two volume set, Guide to Byzantine Iconography by Constantine Cavarnos, published by the Institute for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies.

Those interested in purchasing any or all of these books may either go to the websites of St. Vladimir's Seminary Press or the Institute for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, to other Eastern Christian booksellers, or to online stores such as Amazon.com.
