Solemn Pontifical Mass for the Feast of the Sacred Heart, New York City
Matthew Alderman
A major event in the return of the Tridentine mass to the Catholic mainstream will be occurring tomorrow in New York's Church of St. Jean Baptiste, a solemn pontifical mass celebrated at 7 P.M. by Bishop Fernando Areas Rifan of the Apostolic Administration of St. John Vianney. I believe this will be the first pontifical mass in the extraordinary form held in New York for at least a decade, though I suspect our readers can give us a more exact figure. A relic of St. John will be present at the mass. This mass concludes a novena of masses held in honor of the Sacred Heart; a conference on devotion to the Sacred Heart will be held this Saturday at the Church of Our Saviour in Manhattan. Pontifical vespers with Bishop Rifan will be held at St. Mary's in Norwalk, Connecticut on this Sunday at 5 P.M. For more information, see here and here.
