One of the more deplorable developments after the liturgical reforms has been the almost exclusive reduction of the liturgical life to Mass itself - contrary to the intenttions of the original Liturgical Movement -, and the very longstanding and not long ago ubiquitous practice of giving public thanks to Almighty God on certain occasions by singing a solemn Te Deum is one which has seen a particularly marked decline, in some regions verging on the complete disappearance. It is hearting therefore to see that this is not the case everywhere. A general recovery of this practice would certainly be among the aims of the New Liturgical Movement wished for by the Holy Father.
