Before this Feast draws to a close, perhaps one more kind of papal chair may be displayed for the delectation of NLM readers: this is the beautiful gilt and enamelled Faldstool used by Pope Pius IX and it is now housed in the Lateran Palace museum. Sadly the faldstool is seldom seen in pontifical rites these days, but perhaps His Holiness may see fit to restore its use more widely?
