Fr. Jay Scott Newman has a good post on his blog on the Brompton Oratory and Westminster Cathedral.
I quote the final paragraph here:
"I point out the similarities and differences of Westminster Cathedral and the Brompton Oratory to provide a partial indication of how it might be possible for both the Missal of 1962 and the Missal of 1970 to be celebrated without schism or rancor being the result. Both approaches are authentically Catholic; both are “traditional”. Neither exhausts the full range of the Catholic experience, and neither excludes the other as a matter of principle from being a true incarnation of Catholic faith and life. Most people who are interested in matters liturgical will prefer either the Cathedral or the Oratory, and it is rare to find passionate partisans of either who don’t have quiet reservations about the alternative. But these are the familial disagreements of siblings, not the angry denunciations of bitter enemies. I have had the privilege of praying in both of these churches, and the experience is extraordinary. Regular readers of my blog will not be surprised to learn that I feel much more at home in the Cathedral than in the Oratory, but I have no difficulty in understanding why others would prefer the Oratory. As the debate about how to reform the sacred liturgy continues, all would do well to bear in mind the example of these two remarkable shrines of excellence in sacred liturgy and sacred music. Vive le difference!"
