The document Frequently Asked Questions on Sacred Music is now in its stable release version at MusicaSacra.com.
A special thank you to everyone who commented on this during the beta and pre-release stages. Perhaps 20 or 30 or more people have had their hands in this. So many people have done wonderful work. A document like this requires that many people! The final result, I hope you agree, is quite spectacular.
I'm also very pleased to announce that The Wanderer will be running this in full. In the meantime, please download and print and copy and hand it out or forward to others.
Many of us have felt for sometime that the most important step we can take toward beautiful music at Mass is to draw attention to the ideal of the Church and the very existence of Graduale in particular as a living presence. Understanding that the liturgy comes with "built-in" music goes a long way toward the goal, if only because this understanding liberates us from the great battle over taste that has so long dominated discussions of music at Mass.
On a final note, please don't think that because I'm blogging this that I'm owed any credit for it. Everyone involved agreed that it should be an unsigned statement as a way of keeping ego and personal opinion at bay. It truly attempts to convey the mind of the Church.
