Two Mediaeval Norwegian Altar Frontals

We have often shown and promoted the use of antependia, and they have almost always been of a variety which were stretched or loosely hanging textiles; in other instances they were metalwork.

Here, however, is an example of a mediaeval Norwegian antependium, which is painted upon wood.
