In other words, the Franciscans at EWTN. Two of the "EWTN Friars" whom you will no doubt recognize from the network, came up to the Canons Regular to receive training in the celebration of Mass in the ancient Roman form.
Give the prominence and influence of that Catholic television network, it is good to see this growing in their midst. No doubt we will eventually see the Franciscan Friars themselves celebrating Mass in the usus antiquior on the network from time to time, which would be a wonderful development.
The Canons noted that "They have attended Low Mass, High Mass, High Mass with Incense, Requiem High Mass with Incesnse and the Absolution over the Catafalque, as well as Solemn High Requiem Mass."
They continue: "After a week of study, observation, instruction and preparation, Fr. Joseph and Fr. Miguel were able to offer their first Tridentine Latin Masses at St. John Cantius Church in Chicago... On Friday, November 7, 2008, at the hour of Divine Mercy, Fr. Joseph celebrated his first Tridentine Latin Mass in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. [Pictured above] ... On Saturday, November 8, 2008, Fr. Miguel celebrated his first Mass in the Extraordinary Form (1962 Missale Romanum) at the High Altar of St. John Cantius." [Also pictured above]
Congratulations to them. Do visit the Canons for more on the training.
